Malahini - 16' outboard - plan modifications

Post by zicolew12 »

Good evening,

I am interested in building this boat from scratch, but have a few questions to get my thoughts started:
1. Are these plans/materials suitable for saltwater ocean?
2. Can the plans be modified to extend the boat to approx. 18' or + 10-15%?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Z

the malahini doesn’t have much freeboard and the bottom is fairly flat. I don’t think it would be a great boat to use in the ocean

The malahini is a stretched version of another boat ( I don’t remember which). So it can not be stretched any further

Thank you for your feedback.

Are there any boats with a similar build that we can browse on this website for saltwater use? Or any others you would recommend. We only have access to saltwater ocean.

Here's another good option with a deep vee hull.

We decided to go with the Geronimo after further research. Just bought the plans and will review from there. Thanks!
