I never had a problem with using garden hose on my 5.7 GM engine. I actually keep the flow down a lot so that it just trickles out the exhaust a bit. Just close the seacock and turn on the flow. I generally keep the engine at idle or slightly fast idle with an occasional quick rev up.

Here is a picture of my setup of the Flushing "T" in the intake hose.

I'm with Roberta and use the garden hose only. A water saver faucet will not meet the WOT demand but it should be OK at a low throttle. My engine reads about 170* after warmup on the lake. I would shut it down if I started creeping above that in the driveway.

I don't want to wait for the boat to fill with water to the hose inlet if I ever need the crash pump function, so I added a 3' section of hose to the hose connection with the open end lying in the bilge.

I have a hose with a suction screen that came with my flushing "T" for emergency bilge pumping. I'd have to have Rich crawl out back there to hook it up, though. That would be fun. I suppose I could hook it up, then he would just need to re-valve things.

All the above 3 or 4 posts are all trying to get wayyyy to technical.
It doesn't damn matter if you got a 5.7l GM engine. doesn't matter if you got a hose in a 5 gal bucket.
doesn't matter if you got the 'Fake-a-Lake' toilet plunger on the boat bottom.
Any of those will work, and work OK.
After all, you ain't gonna make the engine heat of WOT when you on the trailer, ain't gonna happen.
all you doing at best is looking for leaks. that's fine and prudent.

Who among us has plumbed their engine with clear vinyl hose and observed all the air actually sucked into the intake on plane ??

I agree with Ken. My engine will not even heat up at idle speed. I run the water to save the raw water impeller.

Bill is correct, it is more about wetting the impeller, than it is about heat transfer.

Looks like 2022 is shaping up to be another banner year in boat launches. I know what you mean about fast progress, my punch list grows faster than I can complete items. I have to tackle electrical real soon as well.

Fellow Texan building a 20' barrelback here. I am about to wrap up the varnishing and will be turning to the interior after the holidays. I am interested in having front bucket seats, which I believe you are considering as well. Is that correct? If so, can you share some details and pictures? Also, I am in McKinney, which is north of Dallas. Where are you located?

yes, going with bucket seats in the front and a bench seat in the back. I found dimensions and sketch here on the forum somewhere! I'll look again and see if I can come up with a picture.

What a day, I was just testing to see if my ignition and start wiring was good and damn, it did and she started!

I didn't have fuel in the tank yet but there must have been some left over from the factory test.
