Norwegian Barrelback 20'

Re: Norwegian Barrelback 20'
It’s been a while since I posted anything here, and sadly I’ve had a stupid setback rather than progress lately. Short story is that I had to change my epoxy system due to availability. I liked the old one, it never caused any issues and it looked nice and clear. But when I got the new system I saw what clear really is. I had some areas where I had to touch up the stain and re-cover with the epoxy. And it really showed that the new type was clearer - especially when I shone a light on it from an angle. Noone else could really see it, but I know that it would have annoyed me every day if I had left it like that. So the end of the story is that I’m now sanding both sides and the transom down to bare wood, before staining it and encapsulating it once more

Changing epoxy can be a challenge. You boat is looking real good, though.

Sorry to hear about your setback, but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.

Thanks guys. It's frustrating, but I'm sure it will be worth it.
Re: Norwegian Barrelback 20'
I had a similar setback...I took all the fiberglass off and didn't put it back on. I just went with stain, CPES and varnish on the sides.
I never liked the way the glass looked and when I realized it wasn't adhered well, I peeled it off, sanded and started over.
In the grand scheme of things, it was only another 30 hours or so in a few thousand hour project.
That said, I did get a nice ding at the dock on Saturday. Very windy and lots of current...and I wondered if the glass was on there if the damage would have been minimized. I guess I can always put it back on!
Good luck. Your boat looks fantastic.

Re: Norwegian Barrelback 20'
Thanks Mick!
There will be no glass here either. Maybe the glass would have minimized your damage, but at the same time I think it would be a real pain to repair it if it was damaged enough to go through the glass.
And you're right - in the big scheme of things this is not a major setback (but still annoying
) - just some hours and some elbow grease.

Thanks Steve. Yes, I’m back on track again (I think), and it feels good planning for new tasks rather than correcting old ones!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything here now, and things haven’t been moving fast with too many other things to do.
I’ve mainly started sorting out the interior bits and pieces and made the seat frames. Also had to make some new hinges for the hatch, as the ones I bought didn’t lift it enough to avoid conflict with the deck. Will post a picture once I receive the parts (if they work as intended
).
Have also started looking at the dashboard. Below are some possible designs- anything you like or dislike? The grey bits will be stainless steel - engine turned around the instruments.
