Looking real nice Roberta. That will be a very nice addition to the family.

3D Printing of parts is very handy for making those hard to make parts for modeling. In plastic modeling, it's been making big strides and most of the detail aftermarket parts are now prototypes that way with many also being produced that way.

Hey Roberta, do you have any information on the running gear and hardware? Where you got it and what you are expecting for performance?

Hi Jimmy,

The motor, strut, rudder, speed control, shaft and propeller came from Dumas. The radio gear came from Tower Hobbies. Many small things like the windshield brackets and deck hardware I had to make. No idea on performance. The motor is supposed to run around 5000rpm. Might be 6-10 mph. I'll be testing it in the next week or so.

The Little Torpedo is getting closer. I need to design and 3D print more parts like seats, flag holders, instruments, and exhaust ports. I made the new perch yesterday so she won't have to sit on a towel anymore.

You certainly build with such detail and precision--no "good enough" for Roberta. You're a truly amazing person...

Thanks Chris and Gayle! It's been fun and challenging building both the big and little Torpedos. The little one has been easier on my aging body but difficult to find scale parts. I'm learning something new with 3D printing. Designing parts that are detailed enough and printable is challenging. I don't have a big investment (yet) in a 3D printer or software, so designing and printing is challenging. I've been using Tinkercad and my printer is budgetary. If I see more uses, I will upgrade.

That is so cool. Congrats on a job well done Roberta. As a scale modeler, I have an immense appreciation for the amount of work needed for these kind of things. Looks beautiful!

Very nice, Roberta. You're getting some use out of your 3D printer.

Thanks, everyone. Jimmy, yes. The Ender 3 Pro has been a workhorse. I found that Flashforge PLA filament works really well with small parts and is strong. The first seat I printed was at 100% fill and took 34 hours to print. It was really heavy and too small for the scale. I resized it and did 40 %. They only took 14 hours each to print..
