Re: Riviera Hull Finish

I sanded it fairly smooth- didnt go to super finish as I was and did fiberglass the whole thing- double layer on the bottom. After 5 plus coats of expoxy, I started sanding again. I plan on spraying a marine grade varnish on it once the deck is finished. I used 1/8 thick planking with plastic staple...

Atwood Trailer Brake locked

Greetings- my atwood trailer brake is actuated and will not release. Anyone know the trick to release it so the locking (to the ball) mechanism releases?

many thanks!

Re: Celebrating the installation of the first Strake!!

Nice work! If I can be bold to offer a tip- carefully wipe away any epoxy drips before it cures. Makes like so much easier later...

Yakima Riveria

Im finished covering the top with plywood and so its time to move onto planking. Just wondering how do you guys get the edge of the deck that dark? Is it paint or a dark stain? and what is the consensus on mastic between the planks vs. a thin light color strip of wood?

thanks!

Re: Riviera Build - Sacramento

Riviera doesnt have notched stringers...Id be a bit concerned about the integrity of the stringers with all those notches....but I am a worry kinda guy. Doubling up the plywood at the floor is overkill - these things are heavy enough without adding half a sheet of plywood to it. Id stick with the pl...

Re: seat backs

Funny - the place I am intending to hire to do the seat cushions (they did a great job on the bed/seats on our restored 53 Field and Stream rv trailer) recommended no angle back, but straight up and down....Im taking Roberta's advise (and the others as well) to mock it up and then make a decision. Yakima Riviera FLOATS!

Launched Saturday in a small lake nearby. A small leak proved worrisome but overall not defeat-able. It was caused by when the bolts of the propshaft guide leaked. Easily fixable.

Now to work on the top and seats. Standing up at half speed not advisable!

Cheers!

Pants and shoes

I am reminded that pants and shoes were nearly necessary to help protect knees, skin and toes protected. Even when hot outside, its important to protect your skin- my boat would otherwise be called "Blood Loss"

wiping up epoxy drips is a wonderful tip!

Re: Interior Hull Finish

I agree- I painted the interior with several coats of epoxy so I can see how the wood holds up- and its a bright color as well. Just could not make myself paint it with any color. Bright wood is uber cool!

small block engine for Riviera

OK, I got the boat flipped- many thanks to Bill E- and now its time to locate an engine and tranny. I have been in touch with Michigan Motorz but they stopped answering my emails (I just wanted a schematic and copy of the warranty). Anyone have a contact for a crate marine engine?

Cheers! Greg
