Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Jim's idea with the floor jack and cross bar is a good method. Once you get the bow supported on the bunks, you can winch the boat on. Use soapy water to help slide it on the bunks. Helps to give the bottom a good wax job if you are using a polyurethane paint on the bottom. I wouldn't recommend doin...

Re: Norwegian Barrelback 20'

Looking Great! If we could only reconstitute all the shavings and dust back into usable lumber. Or even the cut off pieces. Sigh!

They bought a 45 footer and were sailing on the Great Lakes somewhere, but we haven't heard anything lately. We're having a boat show in Sturgeon Bay August 12 through 15 if you get down that way. They may be there. Mark and Mary Willis, if you happen to see them.

Re: starter cable suggestions

For a short run 4 ga. Would be fine. I would go with 2 ga. Over 5 or 6 feet. Pre-made cables are nice as the crimping is done with the correct dies and force.

The Grand Hotel truly is Grand. They also allow airplanes on the island. Rich and I flew out to the island awhile back and took a horse taxi from the airport around the island. Wonderful experience except the horsey smell.   Thanks for sharing your wonderful story and experiences. Ne...

That sort of thing seems to resolve itself as you start final shaping and fairing. Depending upon whether you are planking or painting dictates exactly how you proceed.

I bet you can work in some really nice wooden brackets in the coamings and center post. It will fit in with the rest of your beautiful work.

Usually there is no issue along the aft section of the chine. Going forward, I just sanded it to a nice contour along the entire chine so that it blends in nicely.

I've not had to replace any in 7 years. And any one who wires them will understand them and know how easy it is to circumvent them in an emergency.

Re: books on wiring

Relays work nicely if you want to control several circuits with the ignition switch. They are very common and reliable. They serve as a master switch for many circuits and devices you may want to turn of with your ignition switch. Some can be used to control devices and be controlled on the accessor...

Lots of ways to skin that cat.

I would go four aft as long as practical and do a nice long V in front like I did. Makes for easy retrieval.

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

The bunk supports are channel steel, ubolts and flat plates for a fully adjustable fit with friction lock in place. I can extend, move in and out, and angle them as needed. There are swivel bunk brackets bolted on the ends. Nothing is welded.

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

The two front bunks replaced a V block. These support better and guide the bow in for easy retrieval.
