Re: Embedded bolt fasteners in wood , bolt threads

I couldn't resist doing some kind of stress test, because I am putting pure tension on the face ply of plywood. I put one 1/4" bolt into a 2" x 4" (8 sq. in.) mahog block bonded to 3/4" ply. Without any scales to measure with, I connected to a whole engine (about 800lbs), and picked it up. The ply b...

Embedded bolt fasteners in wood , bolt threads

Here is a technique for bolting to wood. I searched the forum and couldn't find it. A fellow member asked me to post this. West System Geoudgeon Bros. has published embedding bolt threads into epoxy, but, they are not removeable. Here is bolt threads in wood. This method leaves the nut embedded in t...

Show me your Seat Backs

Please show how you did your seats back installation, removeable for access backs, and seat bottoms. I'm installing a beam width fuel tank across the transom, and desire a full width bench seat to hide it, and have beam width rod storage under. the bottom should be in 3 parts, port, stbd, center. th...

Re: hi fellow boat builders

Hi, and welcome. Remember that these plans are written here in the US, and the designer has referred to woods commonly available to us, Reality is that you have to use a type wood available to you in your locale. Mahogany and its cousins, are good quality, and hard to beat for quality. The translati...

Re: Using A Security Battery For Testing

hey, that battery charger , if it is 12v, is a DC power supply. you can use that directly with no battery, just to turn on lights and stuff

Re: Using A Security Battery For Testing

you don't need batteries at all, just for circuit testing. get a VOM (volt-ohm-meter), and just ring it out. Set the meter on 'ohms', and read continuity in your wires. "continuity' means that there is a path for electricity to flow, the meter will read near 0 ohms. 'no continuity' is an open circui...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

OK, enough of the derail of this thread as to trailers, aircraft, stainless steel, etc.
Time to move on.
Time to kill the trailer corrosion thing.
Time to kill the aircraft.
Everybody move on

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Not me, I'm not putting galv on aluminum boat trailer. I'm telling what happens in real world usage, not the book written galvanic scale some engineer wrote Stainless on aluminum is no worse than plain bare aluminum. at least for our boat trailers Galvanized and/or galvanil will start a corrosion re...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

I'm in salt/brackish water. Surge/disc/torsion axle. When the drums died the trailer guy refused to even think about drums. You can unhook the lights on the ramp to launch. But, you won't back on the flat. Bill 12volt power on the 5th wire of the plug harness (5wire flat) is power to disable the su...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

I have never seen a tandem axle trailer with any less than 3500lb axles on it. that makes the smallest tandem a 7000lb job. And yes, torsion axles is the way to go, along with surge disc brakes. The old school leaf springs & drum brakes past history nowadays OH, and watch out for any aluminum traile...

"Thought I would leave it to a professional and just write a check"
There is a lot to be said for that.
I am retired and 'supposed' to be using my boat, instead of working on it. !!
