The size of the 16" guns is kind of evident when you see the guy walking under them. Those gun barrels have a recoil motion to them, something like a 20' recoil slide mechanism. And the turrets turn, swivel, and aim the guns, and it is all 17" armor plating, down to the keel of the ship. And the 4 steam plants with turbines, and supporting 1,000 men with stores, laundry, even post office. And it was ALL drawn by hand with a slide rule. No computer aided drawings, just sharp pencils and slide rules. What a piece of engineering this is!!!
