Hello

I am getting ahead of myself as Im about to start my Riviera
Build thinking of lengthing it 10% 22ft. has anyone else done
the Riviera in 22ft

I would like the advise of fellow builders as choice and prices of engines

Two that come to mind are PCM & Mercruiser

I beleive the Mercruiser 350mpi has a height of 22.5 high, I was reading
on the forum yesterday about the height issues with Riviera, Im sure I read
that the Mercruiser will fit into the Riviera without any alterartions to the frames???

Thankyou Darren

Hello Darren - Welcome to the brotherhood.

I extended my Riviera by about a foot. However, I did it kinda differently that I extended the distance between the frames in the cockpits to give extra room. I am completing the last plywood lamination now and ordered the final layer of mahogany. I did not have a problem with adding the 3" between the frames in the cockpits. Maybe I got lucky.

I am planning on using the Mer 350 Mag MPI. The specs show that it has a max height from mount point of 21.5" which will just barely squeak in on the fit. I know I have to angle the engine which will cause some height adjustment. Therefore, I am prepared to go with a single hatch and possibly raise the deck by modifying my covering boards. I know that changing from a double hatch to a single hand hatch will give me about 2" more to work with since I will not have frame pieces running down the center over the engine.

Keep me informed of what you find out. I am looking to flip the boat during the Christmas holidays.

Dave.

(I know we are not talking about prices anymore, but...)

If you prefer the traditional look of double hatches, but are worried about the height, you could do what I did...

Some may consider it cheesy, but I do not have framing on the outside edges of my hatch doors. That leaves me the height I need in the middle for the flame arrestor.

Hey, Darren. I was down at the Gathering and looked at Bruce's hatch structure. He left out the center frame member which gave several more inches of clearance if you want to use the two hatch system.

FYI, I just spoke to an engine provider in FL. He suggests using a 8 degree down angle transmission which would require only an 8 degree pitch on the engine.

BUTTTTTTT. Coming Jan 1, engine prices go UPPPP $1200 because of a catalyst that has to be added to the engines. The completed engine and 1:1 downangle tranny is still costing $10,400. OUCHHH.

So, I am scraping together some coins right now to get the engine here before Christmas.

Good Luck

dave

Great trade-off Dave! Let me know when you are going to flip...I just might have to make a drive up to Branson to lend a hand and take a look-see.
