I'm taking today off just to give Chip a competitive catch up..although he has two helpers, and I have but one....but mine's a cute blond that provides the tunes on my vessels!!! 8)

Warren,
That is nice of you, but remember the Tortoise and The Hare. Steady as she goes, boys. :D

Guys,
Here is a link to a build where a paddlewheel was installed on a used pontoon. The man that build it is Gary Morton. He has built full size Sternwheelers and even designed plans for one. I emailed him about my project and he said I need to build a bigger wheel. :( Wait a minute. I get to build a bigger wheel. :D

What about three medium sized ones...one for each tune?

Bill,
I already have the drive system figured out for a single, so I'm not going to reinvent the wheel on that one.  I'm sorry I couldn't resist. :D

I don't think adding any additional ones would be that difficult. But first let me check the notes to see if they would add to the movement. 8) [ugg]

Well, I got tired of waiting on Oyster to go over his notes and get back with me. Gary is recommending a 6' diameter wheel that would be 42" wide, with 8 to 10 buckets. I had already decided not to use the 3' wheel and build a 4' one. At this point I think I will wait until the boat is finished until I decide on the size of the paddlewheel. I did have a brain storm tonight  I have glued up my scarfs on the side of the pontoon frames and on the floor, but tonight I used the building form itself. :D I am running out of room. :(

Well I played the "Devils Advocate" and it appears to have been in tune with the present choir and chorus line. 8)

But anyway, All is good and sounds good too. I think you are also in tune to do a sing a long with Mr. Pirate at the ramp. At worse you can temporarily use a small outboard to move about the lake until you can get your wheel built.
Lets refresh everyone's memory. This is the boat that he will be launching this year, being built for his wife. Thumbs up!

Hey, wait a minute. You didn't come up with that by yourself. Let me guess, Sir Slimy left you some material to use against me. I should have known as soon as I saw the word Chevy. Well, you can tell Ole Stinky Britches it is pass put up or shut up time. I have an offer that now includes the both of you. After he is hooked to my truck your vehicle will be hooked to the front of his and I will let both of you use 4 wheel drive and mine will stay in 2 wheel drive. Now for the best part, the Admiral will drive my truck. Are the two of you man enough to lose to a woman.

Mine is only 2 WD..I'm not into the contest...besides,mine is just a dependable Isuzu ,not a super Chevy or Ford!!!

Now get building!!!

I figured I'd better do an update before you know who gets back. I don't want to give him a reason to bust my chops. Finished installing the sides on the middle pontoon last night and trimmed and sanded today to get ready for the bottom tomorrow.

Warren,
Don't under estimate this tortoise. :D

Dave,
I bought a router and trim bit today and it is now my favorite tool. Not hard to use at all. I even had the "TAD II" using it.

Now a question. What size round over bit to get? A 3/8" radius is what I think I remember reading.

You are too late...as they say in the movie:HEEEEE's back!!!

lookin' good Chip.

Had to run to St Pete for more stuff...took up the morning

I cleaned up the shop and got things somewhat organized(well for me anyway)

Cut some ply for the rear buoyancy chambers.

Got the rest of my wood down & figured out where it goes.

Measured where the seats go ,etc

felt like I did a lot,but it doesn't look like it!!  8)

Yes, they make fast and clean work of what could be a tedious job

I have a 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4. I used all three on my boat but my favorite is the 1/2 for aesthetics. The 3/4 is heavy and 3/8 is light to my eyes.

Oh, No!!! :( I should have know. It has been storming here all afternoon.

Thanks Warren. It sounds like you did get alot done. I have a few questions about your build, but I will ask them on your thread.

Dave,
I just want to make sure I get the minimum radius for the fiberglass. I think I will get a 3/8 and 1/2 bit and experiment. Hey, I might have to get my own Lab.

I tried 3/8 and found it hard to hold the glass down. I had no trouble with 1/2. I then built my edges back up with glass to give the hard edge.
