stripper canoe bead and cove?

Post by jon_hagen »

The instructions recommend edge gluing with epoxy glue. Is it ok to use bead and cove with Titebond II or III instead? I want to avoid epoxy if possible (except for the fiberglass of course). I have the router bits and am getting ready to strip.

Jon

In the wood strip canoe book that I used, they use Elmer's wood glue. the boat will beplenty glued together after it is glassed inside and out.

I know I can use Elmers or Titebond. My concern is that if I don't use bead and cove, there will be a v between some of the strips. The epoxy glue dries clear. I don't want a glue that dries with a color. Is there a suitable glue that dries clear and is not epoxy? If so, I will go forward with that and forget the bead and cove.

I didn't even use bead and cove. And the dark Elmer's looks fine.

I agree with Bill,
I would skip the bead and cove, it´s an extra step...
Try your hand at "Rolling bevel" with straight edge strips.
I have tried both and I wouldn´t go trough the trouble of
routing the strips with bead and cove and just use conventional
white carpenters glue.
