I decided to name it Gookooko'oo (owl, in Ojibwe) because of the paired knots on the bow deck. The petroglyph representation came from a petroglyph that was on the Columbia river bank before it was dammed (protects from evil water spirits, supposedly). You can see (most of) the whole project at http://www.myrabo.com/k-canoe/wlii.htm.

Almost done! Tomorrow I'll install the seats and finish off epoxying the gunwales. Light sanding and coat of varnish - off to the lake!

Very nice indeed!
That reminds me I have to put a name on my canoe too, it's going to be called Lacalacalac, or something like that, I have to check.
The word comes from Malagasy and is slightly rude, meaning hurry up, get a move on, something that no Malagasy likes to hear as they are firm believers that everything can wait until tomorrow, or preferably a week tomorrow.
When we went on a 4 day trip in dugout canoes in Madagascar last year our guide said it regularly to the Piroguier, who usually replied with a hand gesture that is difficult to represent with the symbols available on my keyboard.

Got'er done! Caught two nice bass and a good sized crappie in her this AM. Wish I could have held on to the big one! Working on the paddle now. Updates on http://www.myrabo.com/k-canoe/wlii.htm.

The owl petroglyph comes from the Columbia river. See http://www.owlpages.com/image.php?image ... +Culture-1.

It's supposed to protect against "water devils" - I think I've seen some!
