Ghost 13 rebuild - rolling seat rowboat and/or sailboat

Post by tlparker »

So I've got this shell from a 25 year old "Ghost 13" (a 13 foot sailboat that actually seated 4, had a mainsail and a small jib).

What I'd like to do is turn it into a dinghy/exercise row boat that can also sail (so I can row out and about, then sail back when I get tired).

I'd like to start with the row boat part, since I've got someone else at the local yacht club working on a possible mast, rigging, sail, etc.

I'd like to put in some small rails and a roller seat so that I can use some leg power while rowing. This wouldn't seem too difficult, but for all my searching, I can't come up with a (web based at least) row boat parts supplier who will sell these pieces individiually or as a kit (I've already got oars and oarlocks, BTW). So, does anyone know of an on-line boat equipment / parts supplier that might have this kind of stuff (rails, roller seat, some mounting hardward, but I can do some creative fiberglass / epoxy work, the last thing this "boat" has to be is pretty)? Thanks for any help, insight, etc., this is going to be an interesting "project"!

VERY COOL (though I'd want to see what kind of seat I can mount on it, mine rather...errr..largish). I don't suppose you know where I can buy this already made? I've got enough "projects" with two houses, two young boys, etc.. The lake'd be iced over before I got it going.....

You may want to reconsider about not building one. You figure the plans at $29 and the hardware package of $140.68, along with maybe $50-60 in wood, epoxy and varnish(?). That comes in around $225+/- , not to forget the sculls (oars). Which also, if you don't build your own, can run a heffty price for just desent ones.

Check this site I found and NOTE base price.

Also this,

I guess it comes down to how much your time is worth to what you can or willing to afford.

I've thought about doing something with a slider in the 12' Fife row boat, myself. (To work off some of this BEER  )

Best of luck to ya, either way.
One day.
