Re: 8 Ball vs. Sabotina

Well, my storage limitations are actually about 7'6". I'll find a way to carve out that extra 4" somehow. Now, does anyone know if there any differences in construction techniques between the sabotina and the 8-ball? Specifically, how can the 8-ball be built without a form? Does that make it easier ...

Re: 8 Ball vs. Sabotina

Yeah, I thought about the Centerfold, but since the 2 pieces don't nest, it doesn't help my storage problem...

8 Ball vs. Sabotina

Hello,
I'm debating my next project, but I've got a few questions...

1) What's the real difference between the 8 ball and the sabotina?
2) I want to build a non SG boat, but I'm limited to a 7' overall length (storage issues...) Do you think I could shorten either one of these a bit?

Canoe stability

Can anyone tell me how stable the Pirogue is compared to a non-flat hull canoe? Is it tippier or more stable? I'm building one to go fishing with my 3 year old on a lake which only allows canoes and kayaks... I'm trying to decide if I should also invest in a set of "canoe stabilizers" that I've seen...

Well, house paint is cheap, durable and mildew resistant. Especially a high end one with polyurethane additives.

You can get a gallon for $10-$15 on sale.

Canoe Painting Questions

Hello, I'm building a Pirogue canoe, and I'm planning on painting the exterior with a high quality exterior house latex paint (weatherbeater ultra,) which will be red (due to a special request from my daughter...) But what should I use on the interior? I don't think red would be right... Any color/m...

Inboard for an Amigo

Can anyone suggest a potential inboard motor to put in an Amigo? The specs call for no more than 250 lbs an a rating of 5-10 BHP.

Any thoughts would be appreciated...

Thanks for the thoughts!

The floatation compartments under the seats hadn't even occurred to me... Naturally, they would make things easier!

Thanks,

Bulls-Eye Sinking?

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a Bulls Eye tipping over...

If so, how hard is it to right? Will it easily sink?

Just a few questions running through my head as I build...

I worked in a lumberyard back in high school (15 years back?) and I swear that we sold "gimp."

If I remember correctly, it was made of the same stuff that drywall corner bead was made of, with a galvanized coating.

Now I'm going to have to hit the hardware store at lunch!

On the subject of Gimp, here's a question.

How do you finish it? If you are using metal Gimp at the junction of two wooden panels, would it just be there for all to see in it's metallic glory? Is it supposed to be painted?

Thanks for the replies! I'm building a Bulls-Eye (eventually...), so the stuff applying to the smaller craft will be my primary concern. As for the "where" of the sailing, I'll be sticking to fairly sheltered areas of eastern San Francicso Bay... I'm mainly building this boat to get experience in ba...

How to sail

I'm afraid that I only barely know how to sail. This will become more of a problem as I finish my boat...

The problem is that I'm too thrifty to pay for a class. Can anyone recommend the best "how to sail" book out there? Thanks in advance...

Fiberglass instead of Aluminum

Has anyone ever contemplated using fiberglass to cover a Glen-L Trailer instead of Aluminum Skin? (a la boats...) It seems that a small trailer (like the sequoia) would be perfectly suited to it. I think in would end up looking like a "casita" or a "burro." Any thoughts? How much heavier would it be...
