Re: Roberta's ZIP
Well done Roberta, The pics are great and they tell it all. Congratulations. You will really enjoy Oliver IV as the Zip is fun boat. By today's standards, the Zip might seem small, but I remember that as a kid, this was the typical family boat size. Very nostalgic. Now hook it up and bring it on dow...

Re: Roberta's ZIP
Roberta, it has been delightful following your build. Your attention to detail, early on, assured us all that your finished Zip would be a masterpiece. It is absolutely beautiful. No surprise though. I'm sure that your build has inspired many others to raise the bar on their own project. We all look...

Re: Applying State Registration stickers to wooden hulls
In Florida, the registration is a peel and stick vinyl. A new one is issued every year. I carefully lifted a corner and then slowly peeled it back on itself. My Zip had 4 decal changes without a problem.

Number One Tool
After looking at all the post, in my opinion, the # 1 tool in a boat building shop should be a good set of tweesers (for extracting splinters out of your fingers ) Of course a good antibiotic ointment is needed to complete this set.

Re: Roberta's ZIP
Well Roberta, just about everyone has weighed in on the beauty of your Zip. But, after following your build, I don't think anyone would have expected any less. You are indeed, a master craftsman. I look forward to seeing a pic of you sitting on a couple of temp blocks at the helm, sketching out the ...

Re: Tavares/Lake Dora ACBS boat show Mini Gathering 2
I'll be at the show every day as a volunteer worker. Don't want to post my cell number on the forum, but anyone interested in getting together, send me a PM and I'll share my whereabouts and number. Look forward to seeing the Glen-L group.

Re: Roberta's ZIP
Well Roberta, Many have weighed in on the beauty of your Zip and it's finish. From beginning to end, you have wowed us with your quality workmanship. What I'm really impressed with is the workshop floor now. When you began, it was sooooo clean. Now it wears the badge of honor by showing epoxy, varni...

Re: Short Shaft Motor or Long Shaft Motor for Zip, which one??
You ask for the time of day and you are told how to build a clock. Your question was answered by Warren and Chris in the first two post. It's a matter of choice. As an RC flyer, which do you prefer--JR or Futaba ? Same type of question. But, the side trip was interesting. In the late 40's, we owned ...

Re: Help Get Ethanol out of Premium Gasoline
Our local Toyota dealer identified the methanol content in the premium gas my wife uses as the culprit in causing performance problems. They recommended the additive Star tron which is used in marine use too. Almost immediately, performance improved and after checking, we found a significant increas...

Re: stupid mistake.....any suggestions???
I'm with Billy on this. Heat will soften the grip of epoxy. I used a small propane tourch, the one that recharges with the small cannisters. It puts out a small, hot flame that will do the job. Scarry as it sounds, I didn't even discolor the wood. The bolt will pop out and you can re- countersink. B...

Re: teleflex steering
I used the Teleflex rotary NFB system on my Zip. Like Bruce said about his inboard, my 40HP outboard runs straight with hands off. If I were to do it again, I would use the same system.

Re: How to Attach the Skeg?
I elected not to sand a flat spot and disturb the glassed and sanded bottom. I set the blade on my table saw at a slight angle with depth 1/2 of the skeg's thickness. By cutting from each edge, a slight V was cut into the nesting surface of the skeg. I mean very slight. I then set it in thickened ep...

Re: Zip Fuel Tank placement
Hi Ted, I used the same tank and placement as you are showing. I rotated the filler to the center so I could put a clamp on filler and vent lines. This also puts the guage unit so it can be more readily accessable.I positioned the opening directly over the fill neck on the tank. I clamped the hose t...

Re: Zip build tallie
Congratulations Cpt Woody. Your boat is beautiful and your cost shows the value of building your own boat using the resources available to you. But, as a hobbyist for over 65 years, I created a bad habit of destroying receipts because what I don't know never bothered me, or caused unwanted conversat...
