MATERIAL LISTING: The listing is an approximation that can be used for hull cost estimates; it is not meant to be used for buying materials without first checking the instructions and plans for various methods of construction and options which might vary the listing. Interior joinery members are not included due to possible variables and choices on the part of the builder. Note that off-cuts of plywood members can be used for various butt blocks, the motor well, interior members, etc. The listing does not include materials for the building form. But after the hull is righted many of these members can be used to complete the boat and thus could take the place of some members in the listing.

LUMBER: All lumber should be top quality, true stock, free from defects. Suitable woods include Douglas fir, Southern yellow pine, Alaskan cedar, and mahogany (including Philippine, Honduras, and African types). Avoid heavy hardwoods such as oak. Sizes are given as nominal lumberyard stock although actual members as used in hull are given as net finished size; this is intended for convenience when buying since lumberyards do not list by net size. Also note that more than one part may be taken from a listed member, depending on the utilization in the structure. While overall length is given, check plans for joining options using two shorter members. Listed lengths allow some overage for trimming.

PLYWOOD: All plywood should be at least AC Exterior or Marine grade; Interior plywood is not acceptable. If using panels with a "C" grade side, any open defects should be filled with an epoxy filler. Douglas fir or Mahogany-type panels will suffice. Although one thickness is listed, the instructions and/or plans should be checked for options.

  • Adhesives: Epoxy adhesives are advised throughout the construction. These may be an epoxy adhesive or epoxy resin. Epoxy resins should be used with thickeners (silica or equal) per the instructions with the resin and/or thickening agent. Due to the noted options, the amount required is difficult to estimate. A gallon container of epoxy should be more than ehnough.
