Fig. 1 - Ken Tyson’s TRUE GRIT framed up and soon ready for planking. Contours for the frames and stem were taken from our FULL SIZE PATTERNS.

Fig. 2 - With planking complete and outer surfaces sheathed with our EPOXY FIBERGLASS Covering Kit, Ken Tyson’s TRUE GRIT hull is ready for righting. This "rolling" operation is easier than most think.

Fig. 3 - Completed Tyson boat used our products throughout including fastenings, fiberglass, System Three Epoxy, and Water-Reducible LP Paints.

Ken Tyson of TEXAS probably could have bought most any boat. Instead, he chose to build our TRUE GRIT design using epoxy/plywood construction.  Part of the reason? To get a boat exactly the way he wanted it.  Here are some of the features he included:
Increased hull length to 27'; 5kw 110VAC generator belted off Perkins M60 diesel to power various equipment such as 12,000 btu/AC, microwave, & battery charger; 110 gals fuel; reverse osmosis watermaker; hot & cold pressure water system; refrigerator; cockpit shower; mast & boom; radar; anchor windlass, & bow pulpit.

"Your design (patterns & instructions) is a great one - I hope you’ll be as proud of her as we are. She is utilized as a cruiser, a dive boat, and a fishing boat. She has a very easy motion offshore and handles very well. The 2-1/2 years it took me to build her, alone, were well worth it! Thanks again - Ken Tyson, M.D."

Gary Stookey's aluminum TRUE GRIT is coming together nicely in Oregon.
